The partner of a man who died in an horrific car crash in Canberra’s south on Friday night has given birth to his son whilst battling her own injuries.

The three-car smash happened on Drakeford Drive at Kambah just before 6:00pm.

Police allege the man, who is believed to be Tim Smith Brown, refused to pull over when they approached him.

He allegedly sped off and police chased him for a short time before calling off their pursuit.

Shortly after, he ran a red light and smashed into two other cars, leaving one vehicle wrapped around a power pole and another on its roof.

He died at the scene and another four people were rushed to the Canberra Hospital.

His partner Felicity Jessop was in the car and suffered serious injuries.

She gave birth to the couple’s son a day after the crash; he has been named after his father.

Friend Samantha Hurley has created a fundraising website for Ms Jessop and her son, which features a photo of them in hospital. Ms Jessop’s injuries are clearly evident.

“As Felicity has been a friend for many years and a good person, I feel that I needed to make something for this child that will now suffer and may need financial support,” Ms Hurley said.

A post on the page said to be from Ms Jessop’s mother announced the birth.

“Despite enormous distress, Felicity is recovering her strength and is out of intensive care,” the post said.

“She is caring for her newborn son with the help of the wonderful staff at the Canberra Hospital.

“We welcomed baby Tim into the family yesterday, and our thoughts are with Tim’s family after this tragic accident and the death of their son.

“Baby Tim was born at [10:15pm] last night, weighing 7 lbs.”

ACT Policing have been unable to provide any more information about the crash, or the identities of those involved.
