Taylor Swift hits back after Dave Grohl’s diss

Swift thanks her fans – and her band

Taylor Swift has taken a seeming swipe at Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl after he criticised her band.

Swift spoke out after the audience gave her a standing ovation at her final London show.

She said it was an unforgettable moment for her and “every one of my band members, every single one of our crew”, according to video posted online.

“My band who’s gonna be playing live for you for 3½ hours tonight, they deserve this so much,” she said.

“So does every one of my fellow performers. And you just gave that to us so generously, we will never forget it.”

It follows Grohl alluding to his rival during a Foo Fighters’ performance in London at the weekend. He told his audience that Swift was playing her Eras Tour the same night at nearby Wembley Stadium, prompting a round of boos.

“I tell you, man, you don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift,” Grohl said.

“We like to call our tour the ‘Errors Tour’. We’ve had more than a few eras, and more than a few f—ing errors as well. Just a couple.

“That’s because we actually play live. What? Just saying. You guys like raw, live rock’n’roll music, right? You came to the right f—ing place.”

It was a departure for Grohl, who has previously praised Swift for re-recording her back catalogue.

He also once told former late night host James Corden that she saved him from embarrassment when guests at a Sir Paul McCartney party asked him to perform but he was “a little out of sorts”.

“I’m like, ‘Oh my god, what do I do? What do I do?’,” Grohl said in 2018.

“Right at that moment Taylor Swift stands up and goes, ‘I’ll do a song’… she saved my ass.”

Swift played the Foo Fighters’ Best of You and Grohl was so impressed by her “beautiful” rendition that he got up and sang with her.

Swift ‘swoons’ over Kelce’s on-stage turn

Elsewhere, Swift has told her 283 million Instagram followers that she’s “still cracking up/swooning” over boyfriend Travis Kelce’s on-stage appearance at Wembley Stadium.

NFL star Kelce appeared in a morning suit and carried the US singer on to a red piece of furniture after she pretended to faint, during the last of Swift’s trio of London shows.

“Wembley Stadium round one was so surreal,” Swift said in a post on Instagram on Monday.

“Looking out into crowds of 90,000 fans each night and hearing that VOLUME … Those were some of the loudest crowds I’ve ever heard. Acoustic sections went OFF.

“I got to sing Crumbling with Hayley Williams for the first time – hadn’t performed with her since 2011 and, man, my heart was just so full of love for her and our friendship.

“Then the impossibly gifted and wonderful Gracie Abrams came and surprised the crowd with the first performance of our song Us.

“And I’m still cracking up/swooning over Travis Kelce’s Eras Tour debut. Never going to forget these shows. Can’t wait to do it five more times in August.”

During the gig, Swift brought out 24-year-old singer-songwriter Abrams, who sang her new single Us, which features Swift and was released on June 21.

Swift concluded Sunday’s show with the song Karma, changing the lyrics to include a shout out to Kelce, singing: “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me.”

The couple were first romantically linked in September 2023.

Swift has been to several NFL games, including the Super Bowl. In return, Kelce has been to various Swift gigs, including all three of her London shows – but Sunday’s walk-on was a surprise.

On Friday, the couple met the Prince of Wales and his two eldest children, with Swift posting the selfie to her Instagram page.

Anti-Hero singer Swift began the British leg of her juggernaut Eras Tour with three dates in Edinburgh, followed by shows in Liverpool and Cardiff, before she brought it to the capital. Her next stop is Dublin.
