Good. Different. The best. Aldi crowned shoppers’ favourite supermarket

Aldi has come out on top for the sixth year in a row against other Australian supermarkets, as a survey found it has the most satisfied shoppers.

Canstar Blue’s rankings, based on a survey of Australian shoppers, revealed Aldi beat Woolworths, Coles and IGA by scoring five out of five stars in every category, apart from ‘customer service’ and ‘variety of products’.

Crucially, Aldi scored the best in the ‘value for money’ and ‘deals/specials available’ categories; a significant win given the increasing financial pressure many Australians have experienced in the past year.

Simon Padovani-Ginies, Aldi Australia’s group director, said the chain won’t be beaten on the cost of the weekly shop.

“Aldi has won a spot in the hearts and back pockets of Aussie shoppers through one simple and consistent commitment – high-quality products at the lowest prices,” he said.

“Being credited as the only five-star-rated supermarket shows our day-in, day-out commitment to deliver market-leading prices on high-quality goods is resonating with our shoppers.”

Canstar Blue editor in chief Christine Seib said value for money is the No.1 priority for Australian families right now.

“In an environment where higher costs of living are putting pressure on households’ budgets, Aldi’s combination of value, specials, freshness and quality is hard to beat,” she said.

No change in rankings

IGA continued to perform the worst in Canstar Blue’s supermarket rankings, averaging just three stars across all categories except for ‘customer service’ – an area in which the supermarket chain shone and scored a full five stars.

These results show a downturn in consumer sentiment towards IGA, which had drawn in more favourable reviews in 2022 to get four stars in ‘freshness of produce’ and ‘variety of products’.

Woolworths just managed to beat Coles for the second spot, with better reviews for ‘customer service’, ‘layout and presentation of store’, ‘freshness of produce’ and ‘variety of products’.
