To commemorate Anzac Day, Australia gets a public holiday on April 25.

Opening hours of various shops and businesses will vary on Anzac Day, and even between the states and territories the rules as to what can be open and when are all different.

Here is a guide for checking what time the supermarkets are open and when.

Woolworths

It should be noted that individual store opening and closing hours may differ and customers should check the opening hours of their local Woolworths online.

Woolworths Anzac Day opening hours:

  • NSW & ACT: All stores are open from 1pm 
  • Victoria: Most stores are open from 1pm 
  • Queensland: Most stores are closed. Except Brisbane Airport, which will be open from 1pm 
  • Western Australia: Most stores are closed
  • South Australia: Most stores are closed
  • Northern Territory: Most stores open from noon
  • Tasmania: All stores open from 12.30pm. 

Coles

Customers are once again reminded to check the opening hours for their local Coles supermarket online.

Coles Anzac Day opening hours

  • NSW, Victoria & ACT: All Coles stores will be open from 1pm, but some stores may have reduced trading hours in the evening
  • Northern Territory: All stores will open after noon with reduced trading hours
  • Queensland: All stores will be closed on Anzac Day
  • South Australia: Most stores will be closed except Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Berri, Port Augusta, Mount Barker, Adelaide Rundle Place, Whyalla, Murray Bridge Green, Mount Gambier, and Victor Harbor
  • Tasmania: All stores will open after 12.30pm and operate with reduced hours
  • Western Australia: Most stores will be closed, except Vasse, Busselton, Pinjarra, Dunsborough, Margaret River, Karratha, Chinatown, Kununurra, Tom Price, Albany, South Hedland, Orana, Eaton Fair and Busselton Central will be open with reduced trading hours.

Aldi

On Anzac Day, Aldi stores in NSW, the ACT and Victoria will be open. In Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia, opening hours will vary.

Customers are advised to check the Aldi store locator for more information about individual store trading hours.

BWS and Dan Murphy’s

On Anzac Day, the majority of NSW stores will open from 1pm and close between 8pm and 9pm.

All Dan Murphy’s stores will be open from 1pm, except for stores in NSW and the ACT, where stores open at 1.15pm. Generally, stores will close between 6pm and 7pm on April 25.

Bunnings

All trade centres nationally will be closed on Thursday morning. Closing times will vary from store to store, so customers are urged to check the opening hours online.

Bunnings Anzac Day opening hours

  • Victoria and NSW: All stores will be open from 1pm
  • South Australia: All stores will be open from noon
  • Western Australia: All stores will be open from noon, except for Bunbury and Armadale which will be closed
  • Tasmania: All stores will be open from 12.30pm
  • ACT: All stores will be open from 1pm
  • Queensland: All stores will be closed
  • Northern Territory: Darwin and Palmerston stores will open from noon, Alice Springs will open from 1pm.

Big W

In some states, all Big W stores will be closed on Anzac Day. For most of Australia, stores will open with reduced hours. People are being advised to check the opening hours of their local store online.

Big W Anzac Day opening hours:

  • NSW, Northern Territory, Tasmania and Victoria: Stores will open at reduced hours
  • South Australia: Stores will be closed except for Renmark, Port Augusta, Victor Harbor, Murray Bridge and Mount Gambier, which will open at reduced hours
  • Queensland and Western Australia: Stores will be closed.

Best & Less

In Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory, all Best & Less stores will be closed on Anzac Day.

Best & Less Anzac Day opening hours:

  • NSW: All stores open from 1pm, except Nowra, Merimbula, Ulladulla, Tamworth, Raymond Terrace, Taree, Cessnock, Inverell, Gunnedah, Gosford, Toronto, Lismore, Grafton, Toormina, Moonee Beach, Broken Hill. Customers should check their local store’s closing time online.
  • ACT: All stores open from 1pm to 5pm.
  • Victoria: All stores open from 1pm, check local stores for closing times.
  • Tasmania: All stores open from 12.30pm, check local stores for closing times.
