Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle have quietly relaunched their official website – featuring a six-month-old Invictus Games photograph as a backdrop – under the new banner of sussex.com.

Their original website, sussexroyal.com, was decommissioned after the late Queen Elizabeth ruled the couple could no longer sell themselves as “royals” after stepping down as working members of the British royal family in February 2020.

Fast forward exactly three years, and the reinvention has begun on the down-low.

The royal coat of arms on the main webpage is the Duchess of Sussex’s, granted to her before she married Harry in 2018.

The redesigned website has direct links to the duke and duchess’ office, the Archewell Foundation (which had its own site) and Archewell Productions, which pulled together their multimillion-dollar Netflix series and Archetypes podcasts.

The feature image has been recycled, after being used for last holiday season’s Christmas card.

“The Office of Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex is shaping the future through business and philanthropy,” reads the overlay text.

“This includes: The Archewell Foundation, Archewell Productions, patronages, ventures, and organisations which receive the support of the couple, individually and/or together.”

Royal commentator and author of a 2018 book on Harry and more recently, Camilla: From Outcast to Queen Consort, Angela Levin was scathing.

“H and M hated our royal family so seem to be working on one of their own. They have a new website Sussex.com. The Office of Prince Harry and Meghan.

“It’s full of exaggeration and pomposity and is a spiteful attack on the real royals who must do something-please,” she tweeted on X.

A royal reconciliation?

On February 7, after a private call in which the King told his estranged son that he was diagnosed with cancer, Harry jumped on a commercial flight from California to London to be by his father’s side at Clarence House.

They met for half an hour before the King and Queen headed to Sandringham House in Norfolk.

As fifth in line to the throne, Harry has barely been on speaking terms with many of the Windsors after his criticism of the monarchy since stepping down from royal duties almost four years ago.

The change-up of the website, and the dash to London has many wondering whether the hopes of a royal reunion could be on the cards (he was in the UK in May last year on a solo trip for the coronation ceremony).

Talk TV’s royal editor Sarah Hewson said Harry’s visit was “a step in the right direction” for reconciliation with the King.

“The relationship between Harry and his father is not as irreparably damaged potentially as that relationship between Harry and his older brother William,” she said, adding that the Prince of Wales had much on his plate with his wife’s convalescence after planned abdominal surgery last month.

Hewson said the meeting was “an encouraging sign”.

The show must go on

On February 8, Harry “was all smiles” on the flight back to the US, according to People.

That night, he made a surprise appearance in Las Vegas, where he awarded the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year to Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward.

The website launched on Monday (US time) features lengthy, individual biographies of Harry and Meghan.

He is described as a “humanitarian, military veteran, mental health advocate, and environmental campaigner”.

Meghan, 42, is described as a “feminist and champion of human rights and gender equity” who has been named “one of the most influential women in the world” across a series of rankings.

The website’s launch came just a few days ahead of the duke and duchess’ planned trip to Canada to promote the Invictus Games. The 2025 edition of the games will be held in Whistler and Vancouver.

Harry and Meghan will be in Vancouver from Wednesday until Friday.
