Residents on the NSW north and mid north coasts have been spared the severe weather and flooding predicted as conditions ease after a wet four days.

After a wet long weekend in which more than 150 millimetres of rain fell across the Northern Rivers district in 48 hours, the State Emergency Service was bracing for worse conditions with flooding expected on Tuesday.

However that didn’t eventuate and the bureau cancelled the severe weather warning for the region, SES spokeswoman Becky Gollings said.

“Conditions are easing,” she told AAP.

“The main threat has appeared to passed, we will still see a bit of rain but it looks like conditions won’t be as severe as we first thought.”

Ms Gollings says the region may have “dodged a bullet” as the rain hadn’t caused a dangerous situation, but people should still be mindful and keep an eye on weather warnings.

“The flooding risk is minor if not negligible.”

The SES is reminding people to stay out of floodwaters with four people rescued over the past few days.

An elderly woman was rescued after her car slid into a creek and became partially submerged on a property north of Byron Bay on Tuesday.

The 73-year-old woman’s head was just above water level before she was rescued by a NSW Volunteer Rescue Association raft and taken to a Tweed Heads hospital in shock with a fractured leg and hypothermia.

The weather bureau says a low-pressure system off the far southern Queensland coast will bring rain to NSW over the next two days.

Locations that may be affected include Lismore, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay, Ballina, Casino, Kyogle, Yamba, Maclean, Woolgoolga, Sawtell and Dorrigo.

Minor flood warnings are current for the Brunswick and Richmond/Wilsons River Valleys.
