Australian tennis is reeling after the death of former prodigy Todd Reid.

A Tennis Australia spokesperson confirmed that the 2002 junior Wimbledon champion died earlier this week at the age of 34.

The cause of death was unknown although there were understood to be no suspicious circumstances.

Reid looked to have the tennis world at his feet when he won the Wimbledon boys’ singles title in 2002 as an 18-year-old.

He reached a career-high world ranking of 105 in 2004, the same year he advanced to the third round of the Australian Open – his best result at a major.

But ongoing battles with injury and glandular fever caused him to quit the professional tour in in 2005.

Reid made several sporadic comeback attempts without success.
