Novak Djokovic wins volatile Australian Open final

World No.1 Novak Djokovic has won an epic 2015 Australian Open final, defeating Britain’s Andy Murray 7-6 6-7 6-3 6-0.

Djokovic has now won five Australian Opens in eight years, making him the event’s most successful player in the open era.

He surpasses Andre Agassi and Roger Federer, who each won the tournament on four occasions.

The victory came despite the Serbian appearing to suffer from a debilitating leg injury, in which he seemed to occasionally lose control over his lower limbs, in the second and third sets.

Murray played well in the early stages of the match, setting up some stunning baseline slugging between the pair, but was mentally fragile.

The Scot regularly berated himself, and spent much of the time at change overs sitting in his chair ranting and mouthing obscenities. As the match slipped away, he smashed his racquet and generally lost his cool.
