‘Mad Dog’ Marinko lashes out in Cincinnati

Marinko Matosevic lived up to his ‘Mad Dog’ moniker on Tuesday morning, lashing out at the chair umpire during his Cincinnati Masters first-round win over Nicholas Mahut.

The Australian world number 89 beat Frenchman Mahut 6-4 7-6 (7-4) to progress to the second round, but was furious when an attempted ace for match point was called out.

The call interrupted a premature celebration, as Matosevic went on to win the match after a rally.

Matosevic kicked out at an on-court camera before shaking Mahut’s hand at the net, and then snubbed the chair umpire’s attempted handshake.

He will play the winner of the match between American world number 11 John Isner and South Africa’s Kevin Anderson.
