The Daily Deuce: Day nine

Genie is a Belieber

19 year-old Eugenie Bouchard advanced to the semi-finals today and during her post-match interview she destroyed the dreams of many a young man (most of all her Genie Army) by revealing her celebrity crush. When asked who she would date if she had her pick of the bunch, Genie chose Justin Bieber. Her choice, which elicited a couple of boos from the crowd, does make sense given that Bieber fills a few important criteria: he’s also Canadian and the same age as Bouchard.

No hard feelings from the Genie Army, though. They threw her their requisite post-match animal soft toy gift – this time it was a wombat. So far they have rewarded the Canadian star with a koala, kangaroo and kookaburra. Genie told a press conference that she thinks she’s going to have to fly the group (all men except for one) to all of her tournaments from now on. They wish.

It’s a hard knock life (for a ballkid)

Hopefully the young kids who sign up to have sweaty towels thrown at them and run around in the scorching heat have a good insurance policy because they also have to deal with this kind of thing happening:

Bust a move

She was knocked out by Li Na today, but Italian player Flavia Pennetta at least has a back-up career as a professional dancer up her sleeve. She hit the floor in Italy’s version of Dancing with the Stars, Ballando con le Stelle, last year, tearing it up alongside countrywoman and world No. 42, Francesca Schiavone. The sequins, crop top and suspenders are a drastic change from their on-court attire, but the pair have got some moves!

Take it off!

Last year, Novak Djokovic and Stanislas Warinka played an epic five-setter so intense that Djokovic ripped his shirt off in celebration when he won. Tonight, the pair meet once again on Australian soil and Djokovic’s female fans are no doubt praying for another win.
