When animals attack… in sports

It was a pretty sedate Monday night at the football on the Gold Coast, until this brown snake decided he wanted to cheer the Titans on. Sideline reporter Ben Ikin wasn’t sticking around to ask questions.

Back in 1993 one Sydney Swans supporter thought he’d point out the likeness between well-fed St Kilda spearhead Tony Lockett and a farmyard animal. The joke was on him, when Plugger headed north to join the Swans a couple of years later.

This little pine marten (no, we hadn’t heard of them either) has some attitude.

Kangaroos love to unwind on some of our best golf courses, and who could blame them? But last year looked like a family affair at Royal Canberra.

American sports have also had their fair share of animal invaders, as this compilation illustrates, but for our money the most impressive is the kangaroo escaping unscathed from the roaring V8s.
