Luke Burgess bloodied the head of a bouncer while John Sutton spat on the bar and abused staff according to a police report detailing an incident during NRL club South Sydney’s training camp in the United States.

According to Fairfax Media, who obtained a copy of the Arizona police report, the duo had to be handcuffed on the side of the road in the aftermath of the nightclub fracas last year.

Souths only revealed this week that an incident occurred at Monsoons Chinese Bistro and Sushi in Flagstaff on November 30.

Last month Sutton was dumped as club captain in favour of Greg Inglis while Burgess made an off-season switch to Manly.

The Rabbitohs initially did not disclose the reasons for Sutton’s axing.

It has since come to light that the pair were detained for eight hours and charged with disorderly conduct and Burgess was also hit with an assault charge after hitting a bouncer. All charges were later dropped.

According to Fairfax the police statement read: “(Sutton) was asked to leave the bar.”

“After being asked to leave, he slammed his fist on the bar and said something to the effect of ‘f*** this’ and began telling bar staff to come outside with him.”

It was also reported that Sutton spat and was abusive towards bar staff.

When he was asked to leave, Burgess is alleged to have grabbed a security guard and thrown him to the ground causing his forehead to bleed.

Police detained the two players when they arrived on the scene.

“Upon arrival I observed a white male wearing a Monsoons t-shirt bleeding from his head and pointing towards to (sic) male subjects standing in the street,” the police report read.

“I exited my patrol vehicle and was immediately told by several people the two males standing in the street had been causing problems inside the bar.

“Due to the information I had at the time, I detained both males into handcuffs and secured (their hands) behind their back and instructed them to sit on the curb.

“I spoke with John and Luke, both of whom had bloodshot red watery eyes and smelled strongly of intoxicating beverage. Both males were adamant they had done nothing wrong and kept asking why they had been detained.”

Shane Richardson, who was Rabbitohs chief executive at the time of the incident, but has since been appointed the NRL head of game strategy and development, denied the club had covered up the players’ arrest.

Sutton has been named captain for the Rabbitohs’ trial against Queensland Cup club the Northern Pride at Redfern Oval on Saturday.
