Konrad Hurrell fined over internet sex tape

Warriors centre Konrad Hurrell has been fined $5000 by the NRL club over a sex video that was leaked on the internet.

The Warriors launched an investigation on Monday, a day after the clip, reportedly depicting the 22-year-old engaged in a sex act while driving a car, surfaced on the internet.

Club chief executive Wayne Scurrah said on Wednesday that the investigation had been completed.

As well as being censured and fined, with the money going to charity, Hurrell would also undergo counselling on social media use.

Scurrah said the NRL Integrity Unit had been briefed on the club’s findings and the penalty.

“Konrad is full of remorse over what has happened,” he said.

“While the incident involved two consenting adults, his action in sharing the content with others was unacceptable and inappropriate.”

Scurrah said the matter had brought unwanted focus on the Warriors and the NRL.

He said Hurrell had attended the NRL’s social media seminars and workshops every year he had been at the club.

“He knows the expectations but in this case he made a poor choice.”

Hurrell, who has been picked in the Warriors’ starting 13 to face Canberra at Eden Park on Saturday, apologised for his actions.

“I am so sorry this has happened and want to apologise for the trouble I have caused,” he said in a statement.

“I’ve embarrassed the club, my teammates, the members and most of all my family. I made a bad decision but I will learn from this.”
