Souths’ George Burgess facing one-game ban

South Sydney prop George Burgess is set to miss Sunday’s clash with Canberra following his careless high tackle on Wests Tigers fullback James Tedesco last Friday.

Burgess was slugged with a grade two charge by the match review committee and will spend a week on the sidelines if he takes the early guilty plea.

The England international was one of four players charged in a spiteful encounter at ANZ Stadium that saw the Tigers run out shock 25-16 winners.

Rabbitohs back-rower Ben Te’o and centre Bryson Goodwin were also charged with grade one careless high tackles on Tedesco.

Te’o will be free to play against the Raiders as will Goodwin if he accepts the early guilty plea.

Tigers prop James Gavet was charged with detrimental conduct for his kneeing of Burgess early in the second half.

Gavet will be cleared to play the Warriors in Hamilton on Sunday should he take the early plea.

On another busy day for the match review committee, Manly co-captain Jason King will miss a game for his shoulder charge on Parramatta’s Peni Terepo on Sunday.

The grade one charge would see him miss the clash with Sydney Roosters on Friday if he accepts the sanction, but he would be suspended for two matches should he fight it and fail.

Roosters forward Kane Evans will be free for selection this weekend following his grade one high tackle on Matt Gillett as will Penrith’s Adam Docker if he opts against fighting a dangerous throw charge.
