Josh Hoffman to remain with Broncos for next two years

The Brisbane Broncos have put the brakes on rumours full-back Josh Hoffman is leaving the club.

The rumour mill went into overdrive after the signing of 2012 Dally M Medallist Ben Barba late this season.

But questions had been asked about whether Hoffman was happy at the club as far back as the start of the season when Parramatta-bound Corey Norman usurped him as the Broncos’ first-choice custodian.

Despite scoring a raft of tries on the wing this season, Hoffman was vocal about wanting to return to the back and eventually got his wish when Norman was dropped for before Brisbane’s round-20 game against North Queensland.

It was understood Hoffman was unhappy about the Barba signing and was looking elsewhere. He was also apparently angered by comment from Broncos team-mate Justin Hodges that he was “not the right guy” for the full-back job.

But the Broncos’ reacted late on Friday afternoon saying the New Zealand representative would see out his Brisbane contract.

“Over the last 12 months there has been a lot of innuendo about Josh Hoffman for a number of reasons,” general manager of football operations Andrew Gee said in a club statement.

“The fact is Josh is signed to the club until the end of 2015.

“Josh has never indicated to us personally that he wants to leave. Every time we have talked to him, he says he wants to stay here.

“Josh will be at this club until his contract runs out in 2015.”

While Hoffman is still contracted with the Broncos, his management is not allowed to engage in negotiations with other teams without first receiving the go-ahead from the Broncos.
