Two Australian swimmers have been admitted to hospital and will miss the team’s charter flight home on Monday afternoon (Brazil time).

Fairfax Media has reported that backstroker Madison Wilson and freestyler Bronte Barratt were hospitalised with separate complaints.

Wilson was admitted after complaining of abdominal pain which was thought to be a possible appendicitis, which will scuttle her plans to compete in the FINA World Cup events in Europe, the paper reported.

Barratt contracted pneumonia and may still be too ill to make her chartered flight due to leave Rio Tuesday (local time).

More to come.
