Champion mare Winx has won her 20th successive race, eclipsing the field in the $500,000 Group One George Main Stakes over 1600m at Royal Randwick in Sydney on Saturday.

With 13 Group One wins (a total of 24 wins from 30 starts) her earnings are now second on the all-time prize money list at $13.5 million, closing in on Makybe Diva’s record of $14,526,690.

Despite the Chris Waller-trained mare looking in trouble at the 800-metre mark, solid riding from Hugh Bowman extended her lead in the straight to beat Happy Clapper and Foxplay.

The win puts the six-year-old bay mare Winx second behind Black Caviar in the record for consecutive wins.

“She’s done it again, she’s such a delight to be a part of,” Bowman told the Seven Network.

“She’s such a magical horse. The pace was strong, at the top of the straight there was a lot of ground to make up.

“I knew she could do it today, I’m just so proud of her.”

“She just keeps on producing,” Bowman said.

One race caller said she was “absolutely superb” and her acceleration “mindblowing” and running home in 1.33.65 it was a record in that race.

Once celebrations are over, Winx and her connections will have eyes on a third consecutive W.S.Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 28, joining Kingston Town to become just the second horse in history to win the race.
