Wednesday horse racing tips: Canterbury

There was disappointment with the scratching of EL ROCA in the Hobartville on Saturday, but our selection in the Australian Guineas CRITERION ran a huge race at a great each way quote. Hope a few readers followed and had a good day.

For Wednesday we bring you a couple of races on what is a good day at Canterbury.

Canterbury Race 3 (1250m)

Races don’t come much more restricted than this; A No Metro Win race for 3YO fillies. Speed from 6 MONEY LEGS and 5 DUBLIN LASS. Tommy Berry is likely to face a decision on where to go with the top weight 1 SHE’S BELLA. Wouldn’t usually expect her to lead over the 1250m here but with a big weight from an awkward draw she may push forward. She did show enough speed to lead a top field in the Flight Stakes but that was over the mile. If she doesn’t go forward, she may have to be a pair further back than preferred if Berry decides to look for cover. 9 BALMORAL BABY got a lot further back than expected on debut due to trouble after jumping. She can settle more forward today but barrier 7 does look a little tricky. For the speed map please click here. The tempo will be genuine regardless of the tactics employed by 1 SHE’S BELLA.

The drift of 1 SHE’S BELLA first up was substantial ($3 – $8) and the Sebring filly ran accordingly finishing 6th of 10. She definitely has the talent to figure here if at her best and the market suggested she may have needed the run last time. She did have a few excuses first-up and the rider stated that she may not have handled the heavy track. It will definitely pay to watch the market again here and if she is supported she has to be respected. Expecting an improved performance but she does have to concede a fair amount of weight to some handy types and the barrier isn’t ideal.

Our blackbooker is 9 BALMORAL BABY. She too didn’t have the best of luck last start on debut. She knuckled at the jump and almost dislodged her rider. Added to that was the fact she over raced. All things considered, her effort to run 5th was full of merit. We have plenty of time for her and sharp improvement can be expected. She gets in very well in at the weights, especially after the claim for Sam Clipperton. With any luck in running she can figure here and may be a point or two over the odds due to her debut in which she had plenty of excuses. Have to think she will turn the tables on 3 VIVID despite the barriers.

6 MONEY LEGS beat Castigate last start. Mind you, something always has to beat it. She will work forward and can give cheek.

If the track is wet 4 MESMEREYESER comes into serious consideration. She relishes the sting out of the ground and has her fair share of ability. She was very good first-up when winning at Wyong and can go on with it here. No reason to discard her on good ground either and she can run well again.

Another trappy little race that may be decided by tactics and luck in running. 4 MESMEREYESER looks a key player, especially if there is give in the track and they are able to make ground. Monitor conditions. Thinking 9 BALMORAL BABY has plenty of ability and looks a great each way chance with the light weight. She may be value and if so, happy to recommend an each way bet on her.

Canterbury Race 7 – BM75 (1200m)

6 CASINO SWOOP expected to lead from barrier 13 and set a genuine tempo. There looks to be plenty of them vying for a handy position which will only add to the tempo here. Our speedmap for this event, thanks to www.racingfans.com.au, can be found here.

4 MURDER OF CROWS comes into this on the back of a very nice trial, not far behind none other than Red Tracer. He went to the line under no pressure and he is clearly in superb order. The son of Flying Spur handles all conditions and goes well fresh. He should be able to slot in, find a position and looks very hard to beat.

The Cummings trained 13 SWING VOTE is an intriguing runner. She has only had the two runs since leading all the way on debut back in January 2013 at Warwick Farm. Following that run she went straight to Melbourne and ran third in the Blue Diamond Preview. She returned in September last year but suffered lacerations at the barriers at Flemington and was some 20 lengths off the winner. The daughter of Northern Meteor was immediately spelled following. After two trials leading in she should be ready to go here. In saying that, we would like to see her perform again on the track before stepping in. Her trials have only been fair but typical of Cummings. Market may be a good guide.

Anthony Cummings has 12 WE HAVE A WINNER and he is bound to get a lovely run in transit from barrier 2. Coming off a very strong win at Gosford, no shock to see him be very competitive. A must for multiples.

Confident 4 MURDER OF CROWS can run a good race. He looks the one they have to beat and happy to back him. Hard to imagine, but each way odds would be a luxury. Outside of him, it looks an extremely open race.
