‘Hayne Plane’ aims for a shot at Cardinals

Jarryd Hayne’s odds of playing against the Arizona Cardinals this weekend have risen with injuries still plaguing teammates.

The San Francisco 49ers, after their Friday practice session, listed running back and punt returner Reggie Bush as “doubtful” with a lingering calf strain for Sunday’s game in Arizona.

Punt returner and wide receiver Bruce Ellington is listed as “questionable” with an ankle injury.

That increases the chances of former NRL star Hayne, with his dual value at running back and punt returner, making the 46-man squad.

49ers coach Jim Tomsula said yesterday that Bush was “looking really good”, but the veteran didn’t practice with the team later in the day.

Bush and Ellington, dogged by the same injuries, did not play in last weekend’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 49ers will likely play three running backs in Arizona and if Bush is out, that will leave Hayne, Carlos Hyde and Mike Davis as the options.

The 46-man team will be announced 90 minutes before the game on Sunday (Monday 6.05am AEDT).
