Belgium beats Russia with late goal

A late goal from teenage striker Divock Origi has given Belgium a 1-0 win over Russia at the Maracana on Monday morning to go through to the round of 16.
In one of the drabbest games of the tournament, neither side was willing to stretch themselves at the risk of conceding a goal.

Russia had chances, with Aleksandr Kokorin missing a sitter in the first half, and referee Felix Brych turning down what looked a solid penalty shout for a tackle by Toby Alderweireld on Maksim Kanunnikov.
Belgium came into the World Cup as one of the dark horses for the tournament, but the Europeans were largely disappointing, with a first-half chance from midfielder Dries Mertens the best opening.
The Belgians also hit the post with a free kick in the final 10 minutes, before suddenly Origi took advantage of a cross from the left to crash home a shot with three minutes left.
Belgium now has six points after two matches, with Russia on one and Cameroon and Algeria on zero points.
More to come.
