Carissa Moore wins at Bells Beach

Hawaiian superstar Carissa Moore successfully defended her Rip Curl Pro title, winning a tight final against Australian Tyler Wright at Bells Beach on Wednesday.

Defending world champion Moore also moved into outright top spot in the 2014 title race ahead of Australian Stephanie Gilmore, who was eliminated in the semis earlier in the day.

In a repeat of last year’s final at Bells, Moore won by 16.23 points to 15.77.

NSW surfer Wright looked to have injured herself after crashing into the rocks late in the final as she rode a wave all the way to the shore in a desperate attempt to move past Moore.

The Hawaiian extended her record in tour finals against Wright to 5-0.

Earlier on Wednesday, Moore advanced to the final by beating two-time Bells champ Sally Fitzgibbons in the first semi.

Wright downed Gilmore 17.77-13.77 in the other semi.
