Wizard Whitlock into World Darts quarters

Australia’s Simon Whitlock charged into the quarter-finals of the World Darts Championship with a straight-sets demolition of Englishman Kevin Painter in London.

Whitlock scored five 180s in his impressive 4-0 triumph over `The Artist’ Painter to move a step closer to becoming World Champion, setting up a clash with Ian White on Saturday (Sunday AEDT).

The Wizard’s commanding win on Friday means he is yet to drop a set in three victories at Alexandra Palace and he is favourite to make the final from his half of the draw following Phil `The Power’ Taylor’s early exit.

“It was a good night for me,” said the world No.4 Whitlock on his website.

“I just took it one leg at time and was over the moon with the result as Kevin is a very tough player.

“Ian has been great so far so I’m going have to keep this going to get past him. I’m hoping my experience will pay off and take me all the way.”

England’s White produced a thrilling comeback from 3-1 down to defeat Richie Burnett 4-3.
