Millions of teenage girls dream of getting a kiss from Zac Efron.

And it turns out all that’s required to turn fantasy into a reality is winning four Olympic gold medals.

Gymnast Simone Biles has become America’s darling for her efforts in Rio.

The pocket dynamo triumphed in the women’s individual all-around, team all-around, vault and floor exercise events, while also claiming bronze on the beam.

But like any 19-year-old, Biles has a celebrity crush – and the object of her obsession is Efron, the star of the High School Musical movie series.

NBC News aired a pre-filmed story about Biles last week as she prepared to begin her gold medal rampage, taking the reporter and film crew on a tour of her bedroom where she showed off her horde of gymnastics trophies and ribbons … and a life-size cardboard cut-out of the heartthrob.

“Sometimes I used to kiss him on the cheek,” Biles revealed sheepishly.

“[I realise] that’s a little strange.”

Biles’ fixation on Efron was first highlighted back in March on Ellen, while in another interview, she said: “I like Zac Efron’s face.

“And he has a good body… I just think he’s really hot.”

As it transpired, the admiration was mutual with Efron sending several messages of support for Biles and the USA gymnastics team via Twitter.

“So phenomenal a skill’s named after her. Congrats on sticking the Biles and qualifying for the finals @Simone_Biles!” one of the 28-year-old’s tweets read.

“Thanks Zac! I hope you can watch Team Final tomorrow night,” Biles responded.

Biles won her fourth gold on Tuesday – the first American gymnast to do so at one Games – but her near-flawless floor routine may not have been quite as composed if she had known about the special guest coming to surprise her later that day.

After watching Biles and her teammates collect a swag of medals, Efron thought he’d go one better and fly over to Rio to meet the champion athletes.

Today host Hoda Kotb helped arrange a get-together between the Hollywood hunk and the American gymnasts.

Efron planted a kiss on the 145cm Biles’ cheek – and like any normal teen, she collapsed to the floor with giddy excitement, but not before she returned the favour as she had practised so many times on the cardboard version.

Biles’ swooning teammates also got a piece of Efron as one of the Games’ feel-good stories unfolded.

Efron has a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most humble stars who is always looking out for his fans.

While in Miami in March shooting the Baywatch reboot, Efron was approached by a young fan who wanted to take a video.

The fan dropped his phone, which shattered – so good guy Efron invited him on-set and bought him a new phone.

And while Efron’s Brazil jaunt thrust him into a positive spotlight yet again, there’s little doubt that one of his biggest (and most satisfied) fans is just as popular Stateside right now.
