Mercedes’ Silver Arrows have reasserted their dominance in the 2014 Formula One season with a one-two finish in Austria.

Championship leader Nico Rosberg fended off a late challenge from team mate Lewis Hamilton to take the top spot.

Williams’ Valtteri Bottas rounded out the top three with his first-ever podium finish.

After starting fifth on the grid, Australian Daniel Ricciardo had a poor start, falling back to ninth place on the first lap.

A daring last-lap manoeuvre by the Red Bull driver saw him snatch eighth place and an extra two championship points from Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg.

His Red Bull team mate, reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel, continued his run of bad luck and failed to finish the race.

After starting on pole, Williams’ Felipe Massa finished fourth to give Williams a season-best result.

In the constructor’s championship, Mercedes is on top with a comfortable lead over second placed Red Bull.
