Aussie first: Ricciardo wins Montreal Grand Prix

Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo has won the first Grand Prix of his career at the Canadian Grand Prix.

The Australian overtook championship leader Nico Rosberg with two laps to go to end Mercedes’ domination of the season.

Ricciardo started in sixth position and avoided trouble after an opening lap crash, then he moved forward to come into contention.

In the final laps, Ricciardo closed the gap between himself and leader Rosberg, then he got past the German driver on the second last lap to take the lead, and held on to win.

Victory was ensured as a crash between Sergio Perez and Felipe Massa brought out the safety car, and Ricciardo went across the line for his first ever win.

Pole-sitting Rosberg finished second ahead of defending champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull who overtook Sergio Perez in the final chicane to finish third.
