Rousey to fight in Melbourne

Ronda Rousey, the undefeated bantamweight champion who has won every one of her 12 fights except one in the first round, will take on Holly Holm at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne on November 14.

She will be the headline act for UFC 193, with Australian heavyweight Mark Hunt to take on Antonio `Bigfoot’ Silva on the undercard.

Rousey and Holm were due to step into the octagon at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on January 2, but UFC president Dana White announced the rescheduling on ESPN’s SportsCenter in New York on Friday night.

“Rousey vs Holm is main event at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne. We’ll break all-time attendance record for an MMA event.” tweeted White.

Holm is also undefeated at 9-0, but the 33-year-old New Mexico native has been tipped by MMA pundits to be another easy assignment for Rousey.

Rousey took 34 seconds to take down her last opponent Bethe Correia at the start of the month in Rio de Janeiro.

“Ronda Rousey was huge for us in Brazil,” White said on ESPN.

“She was well received there, and it was just a phenomenal event. It did very well on pay-per-view here in the US and she’s obviously a huge superstar for us.

“Australia’s an important market for us, so were going to bring her out there in our first real big stadium show, and we know she’ll break the record out there.”

In 12 career wins, only Miesha Tate has gone past the first round.

In her last four fights, the 28-year-old Olympic bronze medalist has made quick work of Sara McMann (66 seconds), Alexis Davis (16 seconds), Cat Zingano (14 seconds) and Correia.
