The wife of American golfer Lucas Glover was arrested for domestic battery after an attack on the US Open winner during the recently completed Players Championship, according to police reports.

In addition to the domestic violence charge, Krista Glover was also reportedly charged with resisting arrest after a late night disagreement turned violent.

The incident is said to have occurred on Saturday (local time) and came after Glover carded a poor 78 at the event, meaning that although he made the cut, he did not finish the tournament after slipping so far out of contention.

In the police report, Lucas Glover told officers that “every time he plays poorly in a tournament, Krista begins yelling at him, stating he is a ‘loser’ and a ‘p—y’ ” and that he was “tired of the altercations”.

According to Golf Digest, “police noted multiple lacerations to both Lucas and his 62-year-old mother, who had blood on her shirt and said she was hit in the chest”.

The police report also said that Krista Glover attempted to flee the scene after her arrest and that she kicked a door of a police car so hard it caused the door to “visibly separate from the cell of the door frame”.

Lucas Glover later released a statement on Twitter saying he was confident his wife would be “cleared in this private matter”.

“On May 12, my wife and mother were involved in an argument to which the police were called,” he said.

“Everyone is fine. Regrettably, although Krista was charged, we are comfortable that the judicial system is able to address what actually happened and Krista will be cleared in this private matter.

“We thank you for respecting our privacy as we work through this unfortunate situation.”

Glover plays on the PGA Tour and they released a statement offering support to the 38-year-old, if required.

“We are aware of the situation and Lucas informed us of his statement, which has seen been posted to his Twitter account,” a PGA Tour statement read.

“Of course, we are here to provide support to Lucas and his family if needed; however, we are also respecting their request for privacy during this time.”

The couple are married and have two children.

Glover is ranked 104th in the world but hit a career-high of 15th in 2009.
