More questions over Allenby’s version of events
Robert Allenby’s facial injuries were self-inflicted when the Australian golfer passed out after attending a Honolulu strip club and fell on a lava rock, according to a homeless man.
Chris Khamis’s account is the latest version in the mystery of what happened to Allenby early on Saturday near Waikiki Beach.
Allenby said he was at a wine bar, became separated from friends, then was drugged or beaten unconscious, robbed, tossed in the boot of a car and dumped at a park 10km away.
• Allenby and homeless woman reunited
• Credit card could solve Allenby mystery
Homeless woman Charade Keane disputed Allenby’s story, telling reporters she found him bloody and dazed not far from the wine bar.
Khamis said he did not see anyone beat Allenby and claimed the golfer kept repeating he was a millionaire and waved around his platinum credit card.
“It was his stupidity,” Khamis told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
“(Allenby) passed out and hit his head.
“I was there. Nobody pushed him out of a car.”
Khamis also alleged Allenby had been at a strip club to get some “action”.
Honolulu detectives have been collecting security footage of the area in an attempt to piece together Allenby’s movements and to identify who used his credit cards.
“The incident involving Mr Allenby continues to be classified as a second-degree robbery and fraudulent use of credit card,” Honolulu police spokesperson Michelle Yu said.
“No arrest has been made.”
Allenby was in Hawaii to compete in the PGA Tour’s Sony Open.
