Alanna Kennedy's skills and savvy have earned her a two-year contract with Manchester City.

Matildas star Alanna Kennedy has secured a two-year to join FA Women’s Super League heavyweights Manchester City.

The 26-year-old defender makes the move after a season with Tottenham Hotspur, joining fellow Matildas player Hayley Raso at City.

“I’m super excited – it’s an amazing club and I’m just honoured to be a part of it,” Kennedy said.

“Obviously Manchester City as a whole is amazing and they’re known across the globe, but also I think just the style of football that’s played here will suit me personally.

“I want to help the team any way that I can, but what attracted me to it mostly is just the brand of football that they play here as it’s incredible to watch.”

City have finished runners up in the FAWSL in each of the last four seasons since triumphing in 2016.

A veteran of two World Cups, Kennedy’s latest move comes after she helped the Matlias to fourth place at the Tokyo Olympics.

City coach Gareth Taylor believed Kennedy had plenty to offer his team after a career which has also included stints with Sydney FC, Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory as well US teams Western New York Flash and Orlando Pride.

“Alanna is a player of top experience, both abroad and in the FAWSL,” said Taylor.

“She’s also versatile and is capable of playing in a number of positions, so we’re really pleased to have been able to add someone of her ilk and quality to the talented squad we already have.

“With her personality, we feel like she’ll fit right in with our ethos here at City and we’re very much looking forward to working with her over the coming seasons.”
