Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has made history by scoring his 500th career goal in stunning fashion against Toronto FC.

Playing for LA Galaxy on Sunday, the 36-year-old kicked an incredible goal described by fans as a “kung fu kick” to join Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the only active players with 500 goals in club and international play.

In the 45th minute, with his side trailing 3-0, Ibrahimovic unleashed a perfectly-timed spinning roundhouse kick with his right leg that fooled the Toronto goalkeeper.

It was setup by teammate Jonathan dos Santos, who neatly chipped the ball into the box between two Toronto defenders.

Ibrahimovic has a black belt in taekwondo, which may explain the unusual kick.

It was his 17th goal of the Major League Soccer season, which spans the US and Canada.

Buoyed by Ibrahimovic’s extraordinary feat, LA Galaxy drew level at 3-3 on 58 minutes. But goals from Jonathan Osorio and Jay Chapman gave Toronto the victory.

Ibrahimovic scored 62 of his goals for Sweden with the rest coming while playing for Malmo FF, Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and now the Los Angeles Galaxy.
