With the recent controversy of the expulsion of Russian diplomats from Australia, the Socceroos will be playing in the World Cup.

When is Australia due to play in the World Cup?
The Australian Socceroos will play in their first match against France on June 16 at Kazan Arena.
The Socceroos will then play Denmark on June 21 at Samara Arena and Peru on June 27 at Fisht Stadium.
What is the World Cup?
The FIFA World Cup, often called the World Cup, is an international competition amongst soccer teams.
It is held every four years and is contested by the senior men’s national teams from the 208 Member Associations of FIFA.
The tournament involves 32 teams who play at venues within the host nation over a period of one month. This is called the Final Competition.
To qualify for the preliminary competition, teams compete in the preceding three years.
In 1930, the first cup was organised by the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and Uruguay won.
Who has won the most World Cups?
Brazil has won the most, winning five times in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002. According to FIFA, they are the only team to have played in every tournament.
Italy has won four titles, Germany three, Argentina and Uruguay two, and England, France and Spain have won one title each.
The tournament is a widely viewed sporting event. In 2006, it was estimated that 715.1 million people watched the final match between Italy and France.
When is the next tournament?
The next one will be held in Qatar, 2022.
It will be the first one held in Asia since the 2002 tournament in South Korea and Japan.
It will also be the last tournament that involves 32 teams. In 2026, the World Cup will increase to 48 teams.
