Hooligan behaviour has marred last night’s A-League derby between Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City.

Despite repeated warnings from police and the soccer clubs that fans behave themselves, four were arrested and 13 evicted from Etihad Stadium.

There were “several incidents of concern”, police spokeswoman Anthoula Moutis said.

One flare was released inside the stadium and another outside before the match. Two flares were released post-match.

“The person who lit the flare inside the stadium was identified and will face charges,” Moutis said.

“Police were happy with the overall behaviour of the crowd at tonight’s match, however were disappointed by the behaviour of a few.”

Three were arrested in relation to assault, criminal damage and hindering police offences.

Police say they evicted 13 from the match because of drunk and anti-social behaviour.

Players from both teams warned spectators that flares were damaging the game in a video message shown on the big screens before kick-off and at half time.
