The Newcastle Jets have parted ways with the A-League’s youngest head coach Scott Miller, effective immediately.

After nearly a decade as Fulham’s fitness coach and under-21s manager, the 33-year-old Australian became the youngest coach in the league’s history when he signed a two-year contract in June 2015.

Miller is a former English Premier League assistant coach, and was also a part of Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou’s backroom staff in 2013.

But the club’s ownership and senior management say they decided to sack him on Wednesday morning “based on differences related to football matters”.

It comes just three months after a millionaire Chinese businessman took control of the club.

CEO Lawrie McKinna said he has met with Miller to discuss his departure, and acknowledges the timing is far from ideal with the Jets’ first home game against champions Adelaide United on October 9.

“But once the decision was made to move in a different direction regarding the head coach role we deemed it to be in everyone’s best interests to act quickly,” he said.

“We thank Scott for the work he has done at the club since being appointed by Football Federation Australia last year, and wish him well in his next position.”

He denies he was driving the sacking.

“No, I have not made the decision, I have not made this decision – this is one that has been taken away from me, and went above me.”

No timeframe has yet been set for the appointment of a new head coach.
