No action against Besart Berisha for ‘dive’

No action will be taken against Melbourne Victory’s Besart Berisha for his role in winning a controversial penalty midway through the first half of Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Perth at AAMI Park.

Berisha appeared to hit the deck under minimal contact from Glory goalkeeper Ante Covic, who dived at his feet in the box, before the Albanian duly converted the ensuing spot-kick.

But the A-League match review panel has deemed the striker is in the clear.

Sydney FC striker Matt Simon, however faces suspension, after he was cited for elbowing Central Coast’s Jake McGing in the head.

The off-the-ball incident occurred as the pair were running upfield just before halftime of the Sky Blues’ 4-1 win over a 10-man Mariners at Allianz Stadium on Saturday.

Had referee Ben Williams not missed it, Sydney may have also have found themselves with 10 men and a penalty against them, potentially shortening the deficit to 3-2.

Simon was handed a show-cause notice on Monday afternoon, and has until 3pm (AEDT) on Tuesday to respond.

He faces a ban likely in the region of one to two matches.
