Marc Janko set records tumbling on Sunday, scoring a hat-trick to hand Sydney FC a 5-4 victory over Brisbane in a nine-goal thriller at Allianz Stadium.

Janko broke Besart Berisha’s league record for scoring in consecutive matches, finding the back of the net in a seventh straight appearance with two converted penalties and a second half strike in a game that featured five goals in the last 15 minutes.

He also went two better than Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero’s club record of 14 goals in a season to extended his lead in the race for the golden boot where he sits four clear of Wellington’s Nathan Burns on 16 strikes.

It wasn’t all about Janko however, with Sydney also equalling a club record of nine games unbeaten to rise to second on the ladder – a position they’d not been in since the fourth round.

The result halted Brisbane’s run of five games without defeat, leaving them in seventh spot.

Henrique got the Roar off to a flying start, putting the visitors ahead in the fifth minute when Sydney defender Sebastian Ryall was caught napping, the Brazilian scoring his eighth of the season.

But Sydney had a swift reply with Mathew Jurman launching onto a long ball from Nikola Petkovic to net the equaliser against his former club just two minutes later.

Janko then had his chance make history when Adam Sarota gifted Sydney a penalty for bringing Alex Brosque down in the box, the Austrian clinical from the spot to put Sydney ahead in the 38th minute.

Janko would go one better early in the second half after Alex Gersbach set him up in the 52nd minute to extend the hosts’ lead.

Corey Brown handed Sydney another penalty with a foul on Janko in the box, Sydney’s marquee striker competing his treble from the spot in the 76th minute.

Roar were to be given their own spot-kick just three minutes later when Petkovic brought down James Donachie with substitute Andrija Kaludjerovic converting in the 80th minute to claw Roar back to 4-2.

Brisbane weren’t done yet with Steven Lustica finding the back of the net to draw them closer in the 84th minute off a great back pass by Brandon Borrello.

Skipper Alex Brosque responded for Sydney with a goal in the 89th minute.

But Roar were to have the last word in the action-packed clash with Dimitri Petratos netting against his former side in the final minute to ensure the 5-4 result.
