No more mo for Ashes hero Mitchell Johnson

Cricket’s most-feared moustache is gone – for a month, at least.

Australia’s Ashes hero Mitchell Johnson had the popular handlebar mo shaved on Tuesday by wife Jessica, who was glad to see the end of the “filthy” growth.

Johnson initially grew the moustache to raise money for men’s health charity Movember late last year, but decided to keep it for the duration of Australia’s 5-0 Ashes whitewash over England.

The 32-year-old went on to claim 37 wickets and was named player of the series.

“It’s been great. I’ve really enjoyed having the mo, the dirty mo,” the fast bowler told Channel Nine’s Today show.

“We’ve raised close to $40,000, which is great as well.

“But today’s the day.”

Johnson has agreed to auction off the shavings in a replica Ashes urn to help reach his $50,000 donation target.

But the 32-year-old’s clean-shaven look won’t be around for long, the tearaway promising to re-grow the mo for next month’s tour of South Africa.
