Aust leave out Pattinson for England ODI

Australia have left out fit-again pace bowler James Pattinson from their final XI for Sunday’s opening one-day international clash with England at the MCG.

Skipper Michael Clarke named the side at his official pre-match news conference on Saturday.

Australia had initially named a 14-man squad although tearaway quick and Ashes player of the series Mitchell Johnson is being rested from game one of the five-match series.

Opening batsman Shaun Marsh has also been unable to win selection for Sunday, with Aaron Finch likely to partner David Warner at the top of the order with Shane Watson at No.3.

Clarke said Australia would take winning momentum into the ODI series, but that would come from Australia’s 2-1 ODI series win in England in September rather than their 5-0 Ashes sweep earlier this month.

Australia are rated No.2 in ODI cricket with England one place lower.

“For the guys who do play Test cricket, it’s quite easy to take your foot off the pedal,” he said.

“This one-day unit, we know we are not the number one team in the world at this stage. That is our goal.

“We as a team have no complacency, where you’re sitting there expecting that because the result was 5-0 in the Test series, that the one-day result will be the same.

“We know England have a very good one-day team.”

Australia: Michael Clarke (capt), George Bailey, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Xavier Doherty, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Brad Haddin, Clint McKay, Glenn Maxwell, David Warner, Shane Watson.
