James Faulkner’s bid to win a place in Australia’s side for Friday’s third Test against England appears to have failed after the uncapped allrounder was injured at training.

Faulkner was batting in the nets when struck on the hand on Thursday and immediately consulted with team physio Alex Kountouris before leaving the nets for treatment.

Veteran quick Ryan Harris is managing an ongoing knee injury but has batted in the nets on Thursday and is expected to bowl in an attempt to prove his fitness.

Australia lead the five-match series 2-0.
