Patrick Dangerfield is in doubt for Geelong’s next couple of AFL matches after spraining his right ankle late in Saturday’s 44-point win over the Western Bulldogs.

Otherwise, it’s pretty much all blue skies for the table-topping Cats. They had mature-aged debutant Darcy Fort boot three goals as they kicked their highest score of the season in the 21.7 (133) to 13.11 (89) triumph at GMHBA Stadium.

Dangerfield, the 2016 Brownlow medallist, limped off midway through the final term after re-injuring his right ankle, having landed awkwardly in a marking contest.

“He’s rolled that same ankle previously – I think it was a couple of weeks ago (against Essendon) when he hurt his knee as well,” said Cats coach Chris Scott.

“The feedback we’ve got is it’s a slightly more severe sprain of that ankle but nothing dire.

So for those who saw him hobbling around on the crutches post-game, it’s all part of the Danger Show from what we can tell. He’ll pull himself together.

“It seems if he’s going to miss (any games) it will be on the minor side.”

The Cats’ next two matches are against Gold Coast and Sydney.

“We know (Dangerfield) has got pretty good powers of recovery,” said Scott. “I think what (the medical staff) are quite confident of is it’s not serious although, had it happened in the second quarter, I don’t think he’d have gone back on.”

Chasing their first win in Geelong since 2003, the Dogs looked every chance of springing a massive upset when Mitch Wallis narrowed the margin to nine points with the opening goal of the final quarter.

But from then on, it was largely one-way traffic, with Geelong booting the last six goals and Tom Stewart thrilling the crowd with a stunning high mark over Tom Liberatore.

Spearhead Tom Hawkins led the way for the Cats with four goals, while Fort, Gary Rohan and best-afield Mitch Duncan slotted three apiece.

“Our accuracy was really good – but on a lot of measures, they outplayed us,” said Scott.

The Bulldogs were best served by midfielders Wallis, Bailey Smith and Lachie Hunter.

Superstar Marcus Bontempelli produced the two individual highlights of the third term with a pair of spectacular running goals – the first from 55 metres out and the latter from well inside the centre square.

“Both teams probably scored too easily – whether that’s a good sign for us for three quarters or not, I’m not sure,” said Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge.

“We defended really poorly, we were probably a really effective tall down and we couldn’t win one-on-ones.

“They just won blatantly nearly everything that went forward.

“We had a handful of guys who were really, really down on their output and it really hurt us.

Magpies storm clear of Saints in final quarter

Steele Sidebottom has starred for Collingwood who have stormed clear in the last quarter for a 41-point win over St Kilda at the MCG.

After a solid challenge from the Saints, Collingwood kicked six goals to one in Saturday afternoon’s final term for a comfortable 17.10 (112) to 10.11 (71) win.

The Saints could have put the Magpies under more pressure – they should have been four or five goals up at halftime – but paid dearly for ongoing problems in attack.

Collingwood lost stars Jordan De Goey and Darcy Moore as late withdrawals and Tom Langdon sat out the second half with a knee injury.

Sidebottom had another outstanding game on the wing and was best afield with 29 possessions and two goals, while Brody Mihocek kicked four majors.

Key forward Ben Reid booted three goals and was massive for the Magpies when they were under pressure.

Travis Varcoe was reported for rough conduct after his bump not only caught Ed Phillips high, but there was friendly fire as he also collected Phillips’ brother Tom in the same incident.

Neither Phillips had to leave the ground, but Varcoe might face a rough conduct fine.

Lions hold off Crows in thriller

Brisbane Lions survived an Adelaide comeback to claim a one-point AFL win over the Crows at the Gabba on Saturday.

The Lions appeared to be cruising to victory when they opened up a 26-point lead in the final quarter, but the Crows booted four unanswered goals to fall to an agonising 13.15 (93) to 13.14 (92) defeat.

An Eddie Betts’ goal was the last score of the match to narrow the margin to just one point, but there wasn’t enough time left for the ball to be taken back to the centre.

The win is Brisbane’s fourth from five home matches this season and lifts them into the top four with a 6-3 record after nine matches.

It’s also the Lions’ first win over the Crows since 2012 after losing their past seven matches to the South Australian club.

Midfielder Lachie Neale was immense for the home team with 39 disposals while captain Dayne Zorko was ferocious throughout, making 12 tackles and booting a monster goal from outside the 50 in the opening term.

Ex-Crow Charlie Cameron booted three goals, including an electrifying left-foot snap in the final quarter, while Dan McStay also kicked three majors in arguably his best individual performance of the season.

Rory Sloane was a standout for the visitors, picking up 28 disposals and kicking one of the four late goals which brought the Crows so close to the win in the final term.

Brad Crouch had 32 disposals for the Crows while Bryce Gibbs, who was only included into the team on Friday, kicked two goals and picked up 22 disposals.

Jetta offered one match ban

In other AFL news, West Coast flyer Lewis Jetta has been offered a one-match suspension by the AFL match review panel for a heavy tackle which concussed Melbourne forward Tim Smith.

Smith wrongly thought the umpire had blown the whistle and stopped during the final quarter of Friday night’s match at Optus Stadium which the Eagles won by 17 points.

Jetta pinned the stationary Smith’s arms in the tackle while slamming him to the turf.

The MRP charged the veteran Eagle with engaging in rough conduct, deeming the incident to be careless conduct with medium impact and high contact.

Unless Jetta successfully challenges the charge at the tribunal he will miss the round-10 clash away to Adelaide.

Fellow Eagle Elliot Yeo was fined $1000 for misconduct after pushing Demon James Harmes into the path of an umpire.

Smith was one of three Demons concussed in the loss to the Eagles, with Christian Salem and Alex Neal-Bullen also in doubt for the MCG clash against GWS on May 26.

In the other games, the Bombers bested Fremantle by seven points and the Swans defeated North Melbourne by five points.
