Troubled AFL star Harley Bennell will be offered for trade by Gold Coast after his latest off-field misdemeanour.

Bennell was charged with public nuisance on Sunday night after an alleged incident outside a Surfers Paradise nightclub.

It’s believed Bennell had an argument with a bouncer, including slapping a cigarette out of the other man’s mouth.

Bennell is set to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on September 22 after the latest in a string of controversies for the 22-year-old.

Bennell was reportedly disciplined for attending a pre-season training session under the influence of alcohol and he also was stood down during the 2015 campaign after breaching team drinking protocols.

In July photos of Bennell appearing to use illicit drugs at a Tasmanian hotel during the 2013 pre-season were published nationwide.

The Suns opted to fine Bennell $5000 and slapped him with a three-game suspended ban, making it clear the talented but troubled player was on his last chance at the club.

Monday’s revelations mean Bennell’s 81-game career at the Suns is over despite having two years to run on his contract.

Bennell’s future at the Suns was already under a cloud before the latest drama, with the club believed to have been shopping him around.

Reigning premiers Hawthorn and St Kilda are among those who are believed to be interested in Bennell’s services.
