Fremantle keen to rest 11 against Port

Fremantle have revealed they are likely to rest about 11 players for Saturday’s clash with Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

The Dockers wrapped up the minor premiership with Sunday’s 54-point win over Melbourne, with the result guaranteeing them top spot.

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon says he is keen to rest tired players, and the Dockers released a statement on Monday saying at this stage they are looking to rest 11 players.

“When the players return to the club on Tuesday, our coaching team and medical staff will be able to assess the fatigue and injury status of our main group. This assessment will then help determine the availability of players for our last home and away game,” Dockers CEO Steve Rosich said.

“At this stage our initial assessment is that up to 11 of the players who played in round 22 may not be selected for our round 23 fixture.

“We are pleased for our club and our players that we have secured top spot on the ladder with one game remaining in the home and away season.

“It is a long hard season and our players have been rewarded for their efforts to date.”
