Former Eagle Daniel Kerr: ‘I needed prison’

Troubled former West Coast Eagles player Daniel Kerr has admitted that spending five days in prison last week was the “kick in the butt” he needed.

Speaking to Seven News after his release from Hakea Prison on Sunday, the former footballer revealed he hit rock bottom, saying his life “can’t get much lower”.

The 31-year-old is facing two charges of endangering life after allegedly trying to start a fire at a home in Glendalough, Perth.

“As much as maybe there will be some pretty heavy consequences, I think it was the kick in the butt that I needed,” Kerr said.

“There were some pretty hard times. I couldn’t get to sleep in there. It gave me a lot of time to think. It was what I needed.”

Kerr said it was his mother’s decision not to bail him out of jail after his arrest, which has made him realise ‘the important things in life’.

He will face court on November 29.
