Brits to headline AFL Grand Final show

The musical lineup for AFL Grand Final day has been released and it includes two international performers and one local star.

Welsh crooner Tom Jones and British popstar Ed Sheeran will both perform, as well as Australian music legend Olivia Newton-John.

AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan also revealed that the game’s entertainment would shift from its original pre-game slot to an Super Bowl-style halftime show.

“To have two iconic international stars perform at the Grand Final is befitting the biggest event on the national sporting calendar. Sir Tom Jones’ record as one of the greatest and most enduring singers ever speaks for itself while Ed Sheeran is arguably the hottest property in music today,” Mr McLachlan said at the AFL’s final series launch.

Jones, 74, was long rumoured to be the chosen entertainment but his appointment has been met with some backlash.

The primarily British lineup has also lead some to question whether there is a substantial lack of Australian talent available.

“He still has women throwing their underwear on stage,” Mr McLachlan said.
