AFL set for October grand final

The AFL’s one day in September will become one day in October next year.

A report on the AFL website says the 2015 grand final will be staged on October 3, with the season starting later than usual due to the cricket World Cup.

The final of the one-day cricket tournament is on March 29 at the MCG and the AFL season won’t start until the following week.

The report says each team will only have one bye in 2015 and that Good Friday football will be looked at for 2016, but it is “most unlikely” to happen next season.

The season is instead slated to start on April 2, the day before Good Friday.

The grand final is traditionally played on the last Saturday of September.

The most recent premiership decider held during October was in 2011, when the addition of Gold Coast meant an uneven number of teams that necessitated a bye every week.
