Collingwood star Swan out for a month

Collingwood midfielder Dane Swan is expected to be sidelined for a month due to a foot injury sustained in the loss to Essendon last Sunday.

Swan has suffered a plantar fascia injury in his left foot and will be off his feet for 10 days before preparing for a return in round 21 against Brisbane.

The injury ends a good run for Swan who has missed just seven matches in eight seasons.

Collingwood director of football Rodney Eade said he still expected Swan to make a strong contribution later in the season.

“In the short term it is clear that he needs to heal, get his foot right and reclaim that burst speed which has been such a feature of his game,” Eade said.

The loss of Swan follows that of former captain Nick Maxwell, who announced his retirement on Wednesday following a season-ending ankle injury.
