A funeral service for beloved former coach Tommy Hafey will be held next week at the scene of his greatest triumphs.

The four-time premiership coach will be farewelled with a funeral at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, allowing his many fans and admirers to attend.

Richmond has advised the service will take place on Monday 19 May at 2pm.

Football fans and the general public have been encouraged to attend, watching proceedings on the MCG big screen from the Ponsford stand, while the service takes place in the MCG’s Members Dining Room.

Hafey died at age 82 on Monday night after a battle with cancer.

His life and coaching career will be celebrated with a minute’s applause on Saturday at the Tigers’ match against Melbourne.

Hafey’s family and players from his premiership teams will be present on the ground to honour the remarkable contribution of “T-Shirt Tommy” to the club and the sport.
