Rioli to miss three weeks as Hawks’ woes continue

Cyril Rioli’s injury-plagued career has continued, with the Hawthorn dangerman set to miss at least three weeks from a hamstring strain.

Rioli suffered the injury in the third quarter of Hawthorn’s loss to Sydney.

On the bench with an iced up leg on Friday night, Rioli looked a frustrated figure but Hawthorn’s football operations manager Chris Fagan said the 24-year-old was keeping positive.

“While Cyril is disappointed to be missing some footy, he remains in good spirits and is eager to get stuck into his rehab straight away with our medical staff,” Fagan said.

After the bye next week, Rioli will miss the top of the table clash with Port Adelaide in round 10, and the Greater Western Sydney match the week after.

The loss of Rioli will further stretch the Hawthorn’s depth, with Sam Mitchell and Brian Lake already out for the next few weeks and forward Jarryd Roughhead expected to be sidelined for his high bump on Swan Ben McGlynn.
