Super it wasn’t – until the drive that won the New England Patriots their record-equalling sixth Super Bowl.

The projected shootout with the Los Angeles Rams never developed.

Then late in the game, Tom Brady led one classic drive capped by rookie Sony Michel’s two-yard run with seven minutes remaining to put New England up 10-3.

A late field goal clinched the game 13-3, the lowest-scoring of the 53 Super Bowls.

The victory, which moves the Patriots into a share of the all-time mark with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was also a record sixth Super Bowl triumph for Tom Brady, who at 41 became the oldest quarterback to win the championship game.

“It was an unbelievable year,” Brady told CBS on the field after the game.

We just fought through it more so than anything. It’s unbelievable to win this game.

In a season when all sorts of offensive records were set, this Super Bowl rewrote the defensive record book.

No Super Bowl had gone into the fourth quarter without a touchdown. This one did, tied 3-3.

When the Patriots needed a score, Brady completed four-straight passes, including a pair covering 47 yards to Rob Gronkowski.

The second, on which the star tight end beat two defenders, ended at the Los Angeles two.

Michel ran off left tackle for his sixth post-season touchdown.

With 4:17 minutes left, All-Pro Stephon Gilmore picked off an ill-advised pass by Rams quarterback Jared Goff, who seemed overwhelmed by the big stage.

The game was a workmanlike conclusion for the Patriots, who have won three of the past five Super Bowls, and allowed the fewest points in the season-ending game (tied with Dallas in 1972 against Miami).

At 66, Bill Belichick became the oldest winning Super Bowl coach and extended his record as the most successful with six.

Julian Edelman, the game’s MVP, caught 10 passes for 141 yards, including seven catches for 93 yards before halftime.
