Socceroos star Tim Cahill has made his first appearance for Millwall since the 2004 FA Cup final in the Championship team’s 1-1 home draw with Cardiff City.

The champion goalscorer came off the bench to a standing ovation in the 90th minute of Friday night’s clash at The Den – for his first senior team action since leaving Melbourne City in early December.

After playing and scoring in an under-23s match against Coventry on Monday, the 38-year-old Cahill — who is getting up to speed with his fitness — couldn’t make an immediate impact in his limited minutes.

Cahill’s countryman James Meredith played a full game for Millwall at left back.

The Bluebirds took an early lead through Junior Hoilett but Lee Gregory brought the Lions level five minutes before the break.

Cardiff were denied a winner when Sol Bamba’s late effort was ruled out after referee Keith Stroud blew for a foul on Joe Bennett.

The draw left Millwall in 14th spot while fourth-placed Cardiff are 13 points behind leaders Wolves.

Cahill, who made his first debut for Millwall in May 1998, rejoined the club late last month in search of game time as he bids to play at a fourth World Cup for Australia.
