Socceroos keeper close to Valencia move

Socceroos goalkeeper Mat Ryan is on the verge of completing a dream move from Club Brugge to Valencia.

The Spanish giants, widely considered to be the next prestigious La Liga outfit behind Barcelona and Real Madrid, have snapped up the talented 23-year-old following his two accomplished seasons with Brugge.

During that time he was twice awarded the Belgium Pro League Goalkeeper of the Year.

“If I pass my medical tests, I will indeed leave Club Brugge,” Ryan told Club Brugge’s official website.

“I’ve had a wonderful time at the club but now it’s time to take this next step.

“Last season I already declined a nice offer, but this time I couldn’t.”

Since leaving Central Coast in 2013, Ryan’s career has been on a firm upward trajectory, having been in the sights of a number of European clubs and last year linked with a move to Liverpool.

With 21 caps for Australia, he has cemented himself as Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou’s No.1 pick between the posts.

For now at least, he will be guaranteed game time at Valencia in place of current first-choice goalkeeper and Brazilian international Diego Alves, who is sidelined until next year with a knee injury.

Valencia finished fourth in La Liga last season to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
